You'll Meet a New One Each Month and You Won't Even Have to Leave the House!
I’ve had a lot of mentors. Most of them don’t know how much they’ve helped me over the years. I’ve never even met some of them.
That’s because they weren’t traditional mentors. They were what I call “indirect” mentors. Indirect mentors are great. They never turn you down. The relationship never goes south. They never try to control you. And you never have problems when you surpass them.
True story: Business Week was writing a profile about me in 2011. They called up someone who had known me for over a decade. He had been a mentor to me.
They asked him, “Would you like to comment on your relationship with James.”
His response: “No thanks” and hung up on the columnist from Business Week.
I know why he was upset at me. It’s very hard to maintain a mentor-mentee relationship in life.
That’s why I choose indirect mentors. You could also call them “virtual” mentors…
Howard Hughes, Kevin Smith (writer/director of “Clerks”), Cyrus the Great. These are just a few from my list. I have a lot.
I work with my “mentors” at their best. I get an entire lifetime of experience in just a few hours. I do this through books and other materials about them. This has changed my life.
Reading books, you’ve got yourself one good mentor. That’s a good deal.
The question is, “which book” do you start with?
That’s the same question people ask me every day.
There’s no answer. It’s not one. There are tons. I’d like to show you some of them…
Each month, you'll get a monthly dose of what I call my “Reading Notes,” that include my perspective on 3-5 books I’m reading during the month. You’ll know quickly whether these books should become your virtual mentors or not.
As a member of the Virtual Mentor Program, I’ll also make available to you “Mentor Tracks” where I’ve gone ahead and created the list of books you should be reading if you are in that situation.
I’ll have Mentor Tracks for…
And I’ll be adding more. Some of my ideas include tracks for raising money, eastern philosophy, meditation, health, history, writing, escaping depression, becoming a great employee, having a loving relationship and more. These “Mentor Tracks” are your shortcut to becoming an expert.
But these aren’t just a list of books. You’ll also get the #1 reason why each of the books should be read if you’re following one of the “Mentor Tracks”.
